Boustany Announces Expansion of Mail Service to Cameron Parish
August 3, 2006

Lake Charles, LA – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr. today announced that the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will expand operations in Cameron Parish.  Congressman Boustany’s office had been urging the USPS to expand mail delivery in Cameron Parish to aid in the rebuilding effort.

“I am pleased that the Postal Service has responded to the requests I have made.  I’m sorry that I can’t say the same for FEMA,” said Boustany.  “Residents of Cameron have to deal with enough during the rebuilding process, the least the Postal Service can do is provide easier access for mail delivery.”

The changes announced by the USPS include the following:

  • Hours of mail pick up at the Cameron Parish Courthouse have been extended:  11:00 am – 2:00 pm (Previous service was from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm).

  • The rural route will be re-established for half of the households on the route.  (All Cameron residents are advised to put up their mailboxes.)

  • The USPS will soon sign a lease to set up a temporary facility in Cameron Parish.  (The facility is expected to be operational 30 days from after the lease is signed.)
