Border Patrol Agents – 23 Years in Prison Cartel Drug Dealer – Warning Tancredo calls for Presidential Pardon

( Washington, D.C. ) – Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO-Littleton) today said on last nights sentencing of former Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean for shooting Osvaldo Aldrete Davila, a Mexican drug dealer in the buttocks for a combined 23 years in prison.

“This is clearly a case where the punishment does not fit the crime,” said Tancredo, Chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus.  “These men were handed an unfair sentence for shooting a dangerous criminal, while the drug dealer gets to go back home to .”

Ramos and Compean were convicted of shooting Davila as they attempted to stop him from smuggling over 750 pounds of Marijuana into El Paso from .  Ramos was sentenced to 11 years and one day, while Compean was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

“This is not the message that our legal system should be giving to the drug cartels who are smuggling drugs, people, and terrorists across our borders,” added Tancredo.  The Colorado Congressman will also send a letter to President Bush with other members of Congress encouraging the President to grant pardons to the former border patrol agents.

According to numerous news reports, U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton said of Davila the drug dealer, “I feel he should be in prison.  If we find him smuggling drugs again we will put him in prison.”

Tancredo concluded, “This guy is playing a dangerous game by allowing a dangerous smuggler to get away with his crimes.  I hope Sutton has a good answer to the families who will be hurt by the drugs, human trafficking and terrorists that feel emboldened by his actions.”
