Letter to Colorado DA's
Posted by: Tom Tancredo (09-05-2006, 04:30 PM)

Dear

As you may know, Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey recently sought and obtained indictments against several individuals who obtained loans for illegal aliens using false identity documents, employment information, and credit histories.  The transactions in this initial indictment involved loans for more then thirty homes totaling nearly $7 million.

The scheme that District Attorney Storey has uncovered is not confined to Jefferson County.  According to several recent news reports, it is rampant and widespread.  CNN recently reported that some $16 million in fraudulent loans have been uncovered in Denver – and at least one government source told The Denver Post that around 20,000 illegal immigrants hold Federal Housing Administration loans in the Denver Metro Area alone.

In Kansas City, two individuals recently plead guilty to securing more than twenty federally backed loans for illegal aliens, and in Utah illegal aliens purchased nearly ninety homes costing the government almost $3 million.

These statistics are troubling – perhaps more troubling, they are likely only the tip of the iceberg.  These fraudulent loans lead to increased foreclosures which affects all homeowners.  Worse still, this practice allows countless individuals in the country illegally to establish false identities in homeownership. This poses a threat to national security that is not insignificant.

District Attorney Storey has taken an important first step in Colorado in cracking down on crooked elements in the real estate industry that are putting profits before patriotism.  I hope that you will consider taking similar steps in your jurisdiction to actively investigate and prosecute unscrupulous individuals who are putting all of us at risk by engaging in this dishonest, illegal, and unfortunately lucrative practice.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

                                                Sincerely,

                                                 /s/

CBO REPORT ON SENATE IMMIGRATION PLAN
Posted by: Tom Tancredo (08-25-2006, 10:31 AM)

ESTIMATES PLAN TO COST $126 BILLION

The cost aspect of the Senate plan has never been taken into consideration.  When combined with the policy implementations, this should certainly stick a fork in it.

The CBO report really underestimates what the social services portion will cost.

The last time the CBO estimated what a social program would cost, it was on the prescription drug plan, which was almost half a TRILLION dollars off the mark.

What do you think?

Question
Posted by: Tom Tancredo (08-14-2006, 02:31 PM)

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to any person and any government in the world who contributed to the successful foiling of the plot to blow up British and American planes . Events of the last few days underscore the determination and barbarism of those who daily plot our demise. These events also detract from the credibility of the doctrine of "fighting them in Iraq so we wont be fighting them here." While reveling in the knowledge that we stopped this one, the fact remains that, as has been said so often, they only have to get lucky once. We need the long term strategy that includes as robust an offense as it does a defense. Secure borders ( something many of us long for) a strong military, a well equipped intelligence service and international cooperation are all critical in the struggle for the survival of western civilization. However just as castle walls eventually proved incapable of protecting those who lived behind them. so too will a strategy that relies too heavily on catching the bad guys before they are able to "pull the pin." The challenge is to construct a strategy that includes a vigorous offensive component that includes a set of consequences for perpetrating an attack on the U.S. that are so extreme and painful that the Islamofascists will either voluntarily end their practice of spreading their faith by the sword or be forced to do so by their host governments. At the present time the only consequence for the "martyr" is an eternity of pleasure. Is an offensive / deterrent strategy component necessary? What do you think is an appropriate deterrent that the U.S. can put on the table in this regard?

A Response to the Kansas City SmartPort Controversy
Posted by: Press Office (07-27-2006, 11:26 AM)

We’ve received a number of calls about the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Security and Prosperity partnership (see our blog below). We still have not received a response to our Commerce Department inquiry, but independently we were able to find out information about one aspect of the controversy – the Kansas City SmartPort.

The controversy surrounds a federal roads plan to improve highways in the Midwest that terminate in Canada and Mexico. A non-profit group promoting the highway improvements has a website, in which they debunk many of the myths surrounding the project. Detractors call the road project the “NAFTA superhighway,” alleging that it’s part of some scheme to merge Mexico, Canada and the U.S.

One piece of the conspiracy theory is the Kansas City SmartPort (which is also represented by a non-profit that was founded by local governments and businesses in the Kansas City area). Some have heard about the SmartPort and claim that it will include U.S. and Mexican customs agents—as if goods and people would flow up and down the “superhighway” without being checked by U.S. Customs until the goods arrive in Kansas City. From what we can tell, this allegation is without merit.

The SmartPort only appears to be a non-profit commerce promotion group for the Kansas City area. Businesses in Kansas City are trying to leverage its location in the center of our country and its easy access to planes, trains and boats to get more businesses to come to Kansas City. That’s all.

It’s true that there will be customs agents at the SmartPort. But the customs agents will be used to scan ONLY cargo that is being exported OUT of the U.S. In other words, the cargo that’s coming INTO the U.S. will still have to be checked according to normal procedures at our ports of entry.

For more information on the controversy, a conservative columnist recently posted a few responses on the Human Events website, which can be found here.
