MENTAL HEALTH PARITY

In the 108th Congress, The Senator Paul Wellstone Mental Health Equitable Treatment Act of 2003 had 69 Senate cosponsors and the support of many local and national organizations. The act would require health insurance plans to provide mental health benefits on a par with the benefits offered for other physical conditions.

On behalf of his friend and mentor, Paul Wellstone, Mark continues to work with Senators Kennedy and Domenici on this important health care equity legislation. Unfortunately, a few powerful interest groups have allied with a minority of Senators to keep this legislation from reaching the Senate floor, where it would receive the full public consideration it is due.
