Feds to Spend $750,000 to Repair Storm Damaged Bulkheads

(Washington, DC) — Congressman Chris Smith today announced that the Army Corps of Engineers has agreed to repair storm damaged bulkheads along the Point Pleasant Canal.

“I am pleased that the Army Corps of Engineers has recognized the importance of this project and taken responsibility for the much needed repairs.  I hope this announced project brings peace of mind to the affected homeowners in knowing that their properties will be repaired and restored,” said Smith.

Homeowners who have property along the canal, which is currently owned by the Federal Government, have experienced damage to their properties as a result of recent storms.  The bulkheads at the back of their property are falling down, causing their property to disintegrate.

After receiving numerous letters from the affected residents, Congressman Chris Smith has pushed for funding for this much needed project and the Army Corps of Engineers is expected to announce on Monday, May 9, its upcoming plans for the project which will receive $750,000 in funding from the federal government.

All homeowners that will be affected have been contacted by the Army Corps of Engineers by letter and telephone.  Work on the project is slated to being in four to six weeks.

“I will be in close contact with the Army Corps of Engineers throughout the duration of the project to ensure that it is completed in a timely, professional and comprehensive matter,” said Smith.
