Congressman Chris Smith to Present Federal Check
for Manchester Township’s Emergency Radio System
at Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

BACKGROUND: Congressman Chris Smith (R-Hamilton) will join Mayor Fressola and other officials at a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil a new emergency communications system at Manchester Police Headquarters.  Smith worked vigorously to successfully secure nearly $500,000 in federal dollars for this critical system upgrade, called the Enhanced Public Safety Communications project.

Manchester Township has completed much of the project which will provide effective, secure communications to emergency personnel and first responders to ensure greater safety for both themselves and the public.  The former system was inadequate for the needs of the community, was unreliable and offered no interoperability with Ocean County or other local agencies.  The federal funding Smith Secured allowed Manchester Township to quickly begin the project and move forward to the interoperability phase.  Interoperability enables emergency personnel to communicate interference free with other emergency systems within the county.
