Congressman Smith serves as Vice Chairman of the
House Committee
on International Relations. This committee oversees the State
Department and the United States' diplomatic agenda. The committee
is focusing extensively on building alliances with other nations
as the United States continues the war on terrorism throughout the
globe. Chris focuses extensively on promoting and protecting human
rights, liberties, and religious freedom throughout the world and
on improving life for all people of the world.
As a champion of global human rights since being elected to Congress, Smith is proud to have been selected as Chairman of the International Relations Committee's new "super" subcommittee entitled "Africa, Global Human Rights, and International Operations." In his new post, Congressman Smith will continue to defend and fight for human rights across the globe.
Chris also serves as Co-Chairman
of the United States Helsinki Commission, also know as the Commission
on Security and Cooperation in Europe. The commission focuses
on fostering and promoting human rights, democracy, and stability
in Central and Eastern Europe.
