Senator Chris Dodd Delivers Remarks at Christening of New Navy Submarine USS Hawaii

Groton, CT – Senator Dodd delivered remarks at the christening of the Navy’s newest submarine, the USS Hawaii. Navy Secretary Donald Winter and Senators Daniel Inouye (D-HI) and Jack Reed (D-RI) joined Senator Dodd for the ceremony. The USS Hawaii is the third and most advanced member of the Virginia Class of submarine, and is expected to be commissioned in January 2007. The submarine is named to recognize the collaboration between the Navy and the state of Hawaii, and in honor of the rich heritage of submarines in the Pacific. The USS Hawaii is 377 feet in length will have a crew of 134 men.
