Why Keeping Taiwan Free Matters
June 30, 2006 - by Steve Chabot
The prospects for a free and democratic Taiwan are under attack.  Over the next five years, keeping Taiwan’s current status separate from China will be severely tested.  The united assault, mounted by China against Taiwan’s President Chen Shui-bian, is aided by the actions of some who seek to take power and forge a political accommodation with Beijing.

Border Security a Top Priority
January 16, 2006 - by Steve Chabot
Ending illegal immigration should be a top priority for our nation. Our porous borders cost American taxpayers billions of dollars every year and pose a real security threat. Not knowing exactly who is coming across our borders, their nationality and what they may be bringing with them is a recipe for disaster.

Protect Private Property Rights
November 9, 2005 - by Steve Chabot
Did you know that a recent Supreme Court decision made it more likely that the government will take your home or business and replace it with a commercial enterprise that creates higher tax revenue? It may sound absurd, but that is exactly what the Supreme Court encouraged when they ruled in the case of Kelo v. City of New London. As Justice Sandra Day O’Connor said in the dissenting opinion, "Nothing is to prevent a state from replacing any Motel 6 with a Ritz-Carlton, any home with a shopping mall, or any farm with a factory."

Relief at the Pump
September 21, 2005 - by Steve Chabot
The sharp rise in gas prices has caused a tremendous burden on many people here in Cincinnati and across the country. Everywhere I go, people tell me that they are worried about the high price of gasoline. I share these concerns and believe there are several ways we can work to help American drivers.

Congress Busy in First Three Months of Year
April 20, 2005 - by Steve Chabot
You know that spring has officially arrived in Cincinnati when the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade ushers in the new baseball season and fans swarm to watch the Reds. Despite the torrent of rain, it is hard to believe that April is already upon us. During the first three months of the year, I’ve been busy working to help pass legislation to keep our country safe, end frivolous lawsuits and protect consumers.

Small Business: America's Economic Backbone
April 6, 2005 - by Steve Chabot
In the business world, there are no guarantees. Starting a small business presents many unique challenges, and success is far from certain. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, over 50% of small businesses fail in the first year and 95% fail within the first five years. Yet, never before has the innovation and ingenuity of American small business owners and their employees been so critical to our economy.

Bloated Budget Needs a Diet
March 9, 2005 - by Steve Chabot
This year’s federal deficit is expected to top $427 billion.  That’s over $1,400 for every man, woman, and child this year alone.  Yet Congress still finds ways to spend millions of taxpayer dollars on wasteful programs like the Market Access Program.

Simplifying the Tax Code a Top Priority
January 27, 2005 - by Steve Chabot
As I recently took the oath of office at the beginning of the 109th Congress, I was encouraged by the reformist agenda being discussed by the President and Congress. One of the major issues expected to be debated is fundamental tax reform. Finally, Washington is beginning to recognize that an overhaul of our tax code is long overdue.
