Rep. Carolyn McCarthy announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the Leadership Training Institute of Hempstead a grant for $300,000. 

The grant is funded through the Department of Health and Human Services’ Communities Empowering Youth Program.

“I am a strong supporter of the Communities Empowering Program,” said McCarthy.  “The Leadership Training Institute has a proven track record and will make great use of this grant to help children most in need.”

The grant will focus on the Institute’s efforts to prevent gang activity, youth violence, and child abuse.  Funding will be used to support area families, schools, and community organizations.
