Nutrition Assistance for Children, Families & Schools Impacted by Hurricane Katrina
Dear Colleague:
For many children and families in the Gulf Coast region, Hurricane Katrina not only took away their homes and communities, but also their most basic needs. That’s why we’re working with federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to meet the needs of children and families who rely on assistance programs for school lunch, nutrition, and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children Special Supplemental Food Program).
Available on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service website, found here, you will find information about its Hurricane Katrina Relief Policies. You may also access information specifically related to the WIC program here. We hope you will find this information useful as a first step in helping your constituents and others impacted by this unprecedented natural disaster.
In the coming days and weeks, we will continue to provide you with the latest available information on relief for children and families impacted by Hurricane Katrina, and we will continue to work closely with our federal agencies to ensure we are meeting the needs of students, families, and schools. For more information, visit the U.S. Department of Agriculture website at http://www.usda.gov or contact the Education & the Workforce Committee at x5-4527.
Sincerely,
