High Tech High School
Senator Boxer honors High Tech High for its outstanding work to motivate and educate student in math and sciences. High Tech High, a state charter school, was founded by collaboration between San Diego's High Tech community and educators. It has produced some of the best test scores in the State. |

Tesla Motors
In October 2006, Senator Boxer visited Tesla Motors to learn more about the work the company is doing to develop and promote its 100% electric vehicle, the Tesla Roadster. The Roadster is powered by more than 6,800 lithium ion batteries, can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 4 seconds, and has a driving range of approximately 250 miles before the battery needs to be re-charged. During her visit, Senator Boxer commended Tesla for its innovative vision and dedication to producing what may be the most energy-efficient car on the road today.

UCLA School of Public Affairs
Senator Boxer visited the UCLA School of Public Affairs in Los Angeles. The Senator spoke to the students about the importance of being an active citizen. She recounted the story of how she decided to enter politics, and encouraged the students to work hard to fight for any number of causes that are at stake today in the world. |

Petaluma Flood Control Center
The Petaluma Flood Control Project is designed to provide flood relief to Petaluma's residents and businesses during heavy storms. Over the 2005-2006 New Years Eve storms, the project successfully protected over 500 homes that had suffered flood damage in the past. Senator Boxer visited the project to see what has been completed and what still needs to be done. Officials are hoping to complete the final project phase within the next few years. |

Defense Language Institute - Monterey, CA
The Army’s Defense Language Institute (DLI) is the largest language school in the world and the only one run by the military in the United States. The school teaches 23 different languages and currently has 3,600 students. In 2005, DLI was on the BRAC closure list. Senator Boxer submitted a statement to the BRAC Commission Regional Hearing in Monterey last August urging the Commission to retain DLI and to take steps to strengthen the institution. |

San Mateo County Forensics Laboratory
Senator Boxer has been a long-time supporter of the San Mateo County Forensics Lab, and last year was able to obtain $600,000 for the Lab. On August 23rd, Senator Boxer witnessed how the Lab's commitment to new technology has made it a model for local, regional, state and federal crime prevention efforts. |
