Statement By Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin On Republican Congressional Plan To Privatize Social Security
Wednesday June 22, 2005
"In his State of the Union Address, President Bush challenged
Congress to address the long-term solvency of Social Security by
ensuring solvency for a 75-year period. The proposal being discussed by
Congressional Republicans does nothing to address the solvency of the
program. Instead of securing the Social Security Trust Funds, the
Congressional Republicans plan would divert money from the Trust Funds,
furthering threatening the future benefits of all Americans."
