Visiting Washington, D.C.

You can contact my office to arrange congressional tours for the following attractions. In addition, on the 2nd Thursday of each month, my office will conduct a small constituent group tour of the U.S. Capitol. The group will be limited to 15 people on a first-come basis. Reservations are required. Folger Shakespeare Library: Home of the world's largest collection of Shakespeare's printed works. It is also a museum devoted to Shakespeare's life and times. Located at 201 East Capitol Street one block from the US Capitol . The library is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday - Saturday, call (202) 544-4600 or (202) 544-7077 for more information.

Library of Congress : the world's largest library. First Street and Independence Avenue, S.E. Tours are conducted Monday - Friday, 10:30, 11:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, beginning in the Madison Building . The Libary asks that groups larger than 10 people make a reservation for a specific tour, and is closed on Sundays and federal holidays. Number to call for more information: (202)707-5458

U.S. Supreme Court : the highest court in the land. First Street and Maryland Avenue, N.E. Open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tours 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., every hour on the half hour, except when Court is in session. No tours on Federal Holidays. U.S. Botannical Gardens : A living plant museum open daily, free of charge, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Exhibits interpret the role of plants in supporting earth's diverse and fragile ecosystems and in enriching human life. Public displays are located in the Conservatory, on the surrounding terrace gardens, and in adjacent Bartholdi Park . Call (202) 225-8333 for more information.

White House Tours: At this time, White House tours are open for parties of 10 or more people. Reservation requests can be made 6 months in advance and must be made through your Member of Congress. Acceptance of the reservation request is at the discretion of the White House and confirmations are sent to the congressional office 1 month in advance of the tour. Tours can be scheduled Tuesday thru Saturday, 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. Should you wish to request a tour, please contact our office Justin.Friedman@mail.house.gov or by calling (202) 225-4016 (my Washington office). No tours can be arranged after November 15th.

Lincoln Memorial: The Lincoln Memorial is a tribute to President Abraham Lincoln and the nation he fought to preserve during the Civil War (1861-1865). Located at West Potomac Park at the foot of 23rd Street, N.W. Open 24 hours daily. Call (202) 426-6841 for more information.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial : A memorial not only to FDR, but also to the era he represents. The monument traces twelve years of American History through a sequence of four outdoor rooms, each one devoted to one of FDR's terms of office. World War II Memorial : The National World War II Memorial will be the first national memorial dedicated to all who served during World War II. It will honor all military veterans of the war, the citizens on the home front, the nation at large, and the high moral purpose and idealism that motivated the nation's call to arms. The memorial will be dedicated on Saturday, May 29, 2004. The memorial will be located at the Rainbow Pool site at the east end of the Reflecting Pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument . Call 1-800-639-4992 for more information.

Korean War Veterans Memorial: Henry Bacon Dr. and Constitution Ave., N.W. Open 24 hours daily. The more than 58,000 men and women of the armed forces who gave their lives, or remain missing, are honored by their names being listed chronologically on the Wall. National Arboretum: Established in 1927 by an Act of Congress. The Arboretum is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service.

National Gallery of Art: The National Gallery of Art and its Sculpture Garden are located between Third and Ninth Streets at Constitution Avenue , NW. Open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Call (202) 737-4215 for more information.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing (The Mint): Manufactures the financial and other securities of the United States and designs, prints, and furnishes a large variety of security products. United States Holocaust Museum : This moving museum tells the story of the Holocaust through artifacts, films, photos and oral histories. Tickets for the permanent exhibit, which are free, are available for specific times and must be obtained the day of your visit. Attractions Just Off the Mall

Corcoran Gallery of Art: place where the past, present, and future of the visual arts come to life and the largest non-federal art museum in the nation's capital. International Spy Museum : The world's largest collection of international espionage artifacts ever placed on public display. Located at 800 F Street , between 9th and 8th Streets. Attractions Outside Downtown Washington

Arlington National Cemetery: Veterans from all the nation's wars are buried in the cemetery, from the American Revolution through the Persian Gulf War and Somalia to victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 bombings. The cemetery is open to the public daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from April to September and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from October to March. Call (703) 607-8000 for more information.

Frederick Douglas National Historic Site: Preserves the legacy of the most famous African American of the19th Century. Located at 1411 W Street, S.E. For more information about tours, call (202) 426-5961.

Mount Vernon: George Washington's estate and now a national monument to the nation's first president Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m April through August; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March, September and October and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from November to February. Call (703) 780-2000 for tour information.

Pentagon : Headquarters of the Department of Defense. At this time, tours of the Pentagon are available to schools, educational organizations and other select groups by reservation only. Groups interested in touring the Pentagon should contact the Pentagon Tour Office at (703) 695-1776.

Washington National Cathedral: A culmination of a two-century-long plan for a majestic Gothic style cathedral. The top of the tower is the highest point in DC. National Zoo : A 163-acre zoological park set amid Rock Creek National Park in the heart of Washington DC . The zoo is home to about 3,100 individual animals of 435 different species.
