Cardin Earns Grade Of “A” From NAACP For His Legislative Record

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin earned the grade of “A” from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) for his support of key legislation important to the African-American and civil rights communities.

The Congressman earned a score of 96% in the NAACP’s Federal Legislative Report Card.  The NACCP followed votes taken during the first session of the 109th Congress, which began Jan. 4, 2005 and adjourned on Dec. 22, 2005.

The report card tracked key votes in the House, including: funding for historically black colleges and universities, hate crime prevention, funding for the head start program, and increased funding for the fair housing program.

“I just attended the funeral of Coretta Scott King in Atlanta, and I am honored to receive such a high rating from the NAACP, our nation’s premier civil rights organization.  The goals of the NAACP are my goals: Namely, that all our citizens have an opportunity to achieve the American Dream,” said Rep. Cardin.
