Campbell Informs Speaker of Constituent Concerns on Illegal Immigration Sends letter with results of constituent survey calling for enforcement first approach

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Rep. John Campbell (R-Irvine) sent House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) a letter informing him of the results of a recent survey Campbell conducted of constituents in his congressional district in Orange County California.

“As these results indicate, there is strong support for the enforcement first approach passed by the House in December. On behalf of the people of the 48th Congressional District, I request that you continue your strong leadership on this issue and guide the House in a direction which supports the principal of enforcement first,” states the letter.

The letter also reports the specific results of the three questions more than 3300 residents of the 48th Congressional District responded to. The results were as follows:

1) I support a clean immigration reform bill that focuses on enforcement and border security. Yes 94.6% No 5.4% 2) I oppose proposals to include amnesty as part of the final version of H.R. 4437. Yes 90.9% No 9.1% 3) I support the Campbell Amendment to end the policy of sanctuary cities. Yes 93.4% No 6.6%

“The results of this survey confirm what I hear from constituents every day when I am working in my district: there is passionate and overwhelming support for improved border security and an enforcement first approach to the immigration problem – amnesty is completely unacceptable. This survey is a valuable tool in explaining the deep concern the people of Southern California have over this issue. Hopefully the Speaker will also find these results useful when he is working to dissuade the out of touch supporters of the Reid-Kennedy proposal,” stated Campbell.
