GRASSLEY: $15.3 MILLION IN FEDERAL MONEY FOR IOWA AIRPORTS
 
WASHINGTON -

Sen. Chuck Grassley today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded grants totaling $15,308,527 million for 34 airports in Iowa.

"Investing in local airports is important for economic development and improving the quality of life in rural areas and urban communities," Grassley said. "The federal dollars that are on their way to Iowa will help improve safety and the service provided by these airports."

The federal dollars will be used for various airport improvement projects, as described here.

  • $227,354 to Winterset-Madison County Airport Authority to replace low-intensity runway edge lights with new medium-intensity runway edge lights
  • $718,200 to Fairfield Municipal to relocate the service road for construction of a new primary runway
  • $23,577 to Clarion Municipal to rehabilitate the apron
  • $530,100 to Dubuque Regional to purchase a ground-level bridge to assist in passengers safely boarding aircraft during inclement weather
  • $475,000 to Dubuque Regional to replace two snow removal trucks
  • $26,125 to Dubuque Regional to study airport pavement surfaces
  • $399,000 to Mason City Municipal to acquire land for runway approaches
  • $237,439 to Pella Municipal to extend the taxiway
  • $95,000 to Creston Municipal to rehabilitate the runway
  • $100,368 to Fort Madison Municipal to rehabilitate the runway
  • $7,600 to Lamoni Municipal to replace the 25 year-old beacon and install miscellaneous NAVIAIDS
  • $218,130 to Osceola Municipal to widen the taxiway and expand the apron

    The Federal Aviation Administration maintains a national plan of airport requirements, administers a grant program for development of public use airports to assure and improve safety and to meet current and future airport capacity needs, evaluates the environmental impacts of airport development, and administers an airport noise compatibility program with the goal of reducing non-compatible uses around airports.

    It also develops standards and technical guidance on airport planning, design safety and operations and provides grants to assist public agencies in airport system and master planning and airport development and improvement.
