Congressional Tour Requests:  Certain tours may be scheduled through my office if notified in advance.  Tours for the White House (Schools only), Capitol, Kennedy Center, State Department, Library of Congress, Mount Vernon, and Bureau of Printing and Engraving are available.  While it is recommended that these tours be scheduled months in advance, they are not guaranteed at any time.  You may request tours by calling (202) 225-2276.  House and Senate Gallery passes are available on days when Congress is in Session.

ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY:   Open daily October-March from 8am- 7pm. The tomb of the Unknown Solider, the Amphitheater, the Custis-Lee Mansion, and the graves of Presidents John F. Kennedy and William Howard Taft. Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider is every hour on the hour and ever half hour during the summer months. Telephone: (703) 692-0931.

BOTANICAL GARDENS:   The grounds of the Botanic Garden are located on the National Mall across from the U. S. BUREAU OF ENGRAVING AND PRINTING: Located on 14th Street and C Street, N.E., come and see your money being printed. Tours are available Monday through Friday from 9am until 2pm, closed on weekends and all federal holidays. Telephone (202) 874-2187

DC CHILDREN'S MUSEUM: Located at 800 3rd Street, S.W., This is a hands-on museum where children and adults can learn, explore, and have fun. Open daily from 10am until 5pm. Telephone (202) 638-5437

CHESAPEAKE AND OHIO CANAL: Stretching from Washington 180 miles to Cumberland Maryland, the former waterborne highway has been turned into a National Park. It is open from dawn until dusk and is an excellent diversion for walking, running, biking, and horse back riding. Some areas have been damaged recently by severe flooding and are closed to the public.

CORCORAN GALLERY OF ART: Located at 17th Street and New York Avenue. This is an American Art Museum with a variety of exhibits. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am until 5pm, and Thursday evenings until 9pm. Telephone (202) 638-3211

DUNBARTON OAKS: Located at 1703 32nd Street, N.W. This is the historic site of the negotiations for the creation of the United Nations. The gardens are open daily, from 2pm until 6pm and the museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday from 2pm until 5pm. Both are closed on federal holidays. FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION: The entrance is at the rear of the building located at the intersection of E Street and F Street, N.W. Open Monday through Friday, from 8:45am until 4:15, a 45 to 60 minute tour leaves every 15 minutes. Reservations are preferred for groups of more that 15. Telephone (202) 324-3447

FORD'S THEATRE AND LINCOLN MUSEUM:  Located on 10th Street between E Street and F Street, N.W. Open every day from 9am until 5pm except Christmas or when matinee or a rehearsal scheduled. Telephone: (202) 426-6924

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM: Located at 14th Street and Raoul Wallenberg Place, S.W.(formerly 15th Street). Open daily from 10am until 5:30pm, tickets are free, but can be reserved through ticketmaster. Telephone:(202) 488-0400

JOHN F. KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS: Located near the Watergate Complex where tours are conducted daily from 10am and 1pm by the Friends of the Kennedy Center. Visitors should go to the Tour Lounge, Parking Level A. The building closes at midnight. Telephone: (202) 416-8340

LIBRARY OF CONGRESS: Located in three buildings on Capitol Hill: the "Jefferson", "Madison", and "Adams" buildings. Tours leave from Madison building at 10am, 10:30am, 1pm, 3pm, and 3:30pm Monday through Friday. The Library asks that groups of over 10 people make reservations 2-3 weeks in advance. MOUNT VERNON (VIRGINIA): The home of George Washington is located just 16 miles from downtown Washington at the end of the George Washington Parkway. This historic setting is open every day including Christmas, April through August from 8am-5pm, March, September, October 9am-5pm, November through February, 9am-4pm. Telephone: (703) 780-2000

NATIONAL AQUARIUM: Located on 14th Street between Constitution and Pennsylvania Avenues in the U.S. Department of Commerce Building. Tanks of fish, frogs, alligators, and sharks highlight the exhibits. Open daily from 9am-5pm except Christmas. NATIONAL ARCHIVES: Located on 8th Street and Constitution Avenue, N.W. See the original Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Open daily from 10am-5:30; 10am-9pm during the summer months. Telephone: (202) 501-5000

NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART: Located on 4th and Constitution Avenue, N.W. Monday through Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sunday 11am-6pm. Concerts are held at 7pm on Sundays in the East Garden Court from October-June. Telephone: (202) 737-4215

Mall at NightTHE NATIONAL MALL: The Mall is a large urban green space that is bordered by the Capitol on the eastern end, Lincoln Memorial on the West, Jefferson Memorial on the South, and the White House on the North. Along the mall you will find many of the Smithsonian Museums and several other monuments.  The United States Capitol Complex is comprised of the Capitol, the House and Senate Office Buildings, the U.S. Botanic Garden, the Capitol Grounds, the Library of Congress buildings, the Supreme Court Building, the Capitol Power Plant, and various support facilities. In addition, work has now begun towards the construction of a new Capitol Visitor Center, an underground facility to be located beneath the Capitol's east front plaza.

  • JEFFERSON MEMORIAL: Located at the south bank of the Tidal Basin. The Swan Boathouse maintains a pedal boat rental during the spring and summer.
  • LINCOLN MEMORIAL:   Located west of Potomac Park at the foot of 23rd Street, N.W. Open 24 hours daily. Telephone: (202) 426-6895
  • KOREAN WAR MEMORIAL: A striking monument to those who fought in the Korean War. This black marble wall and statuary garden is located near the Lincoln Memorial opposite the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
  • VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL:  Near the Lincoln Memorial. Henry Bacon Drive and Constitution Avenue., N.W. Always open. Constructed of black granite to honor all Americans who served in the Vietnam War. As a special tribute to those who did not return, the names of the more than 58,000 who gave their lives or still remain missing are inscribed in the Memorial's walls in chronological order.
  • WASHINGTON MONUMENT: On the Mall at 15th Street, N.W. and at the Smithsonian Metro Station. Open daily. April 1-Labor day from 8am to midnight. Mid-September-March 31, 9am- 5pm. The monument is open but currently is under going renovation. Telephone: (202) 426-6839

OCTAGON HOUSE: 18th Street and New York Avenue, N. W. Located by the Farragut West Metro Stop. Architectural exhibits. Served as James Madison's White House following the destruction of the real White House by the British in 1814. The Treaty of Ghent was signed here, ending the War of 1812. Open Tuesday-Friday from 10am-4pm.; Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4pm. Closed Monday. Telephone: (202) 501-5205

OLD TOWN ALEXANDRIA (VIRGINIA): Take I-395 South to U.S. Route 1 in Alexandria. Follow the signs to Old Town. You will find the Old Presbyterian meeting house, Gadsby's Tavern and the Torpedo Factory. In addition, there are boutiques, restaurants, cafes and night clubs.

ROCK CREEK PARK:   The World's largest urban park. It runs from Rockville, Maryland to the Potomac River near the Lincoln Memorial. The park runs along a small Potomac tributary. The park provides a wonderful place to walk, run, and bike, along with numerous picnic facilities. The park is open dawn until dusk and parts are open exclusively to non-motorized transportation on the weekends.

SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION: Free admission. Most museums are located by the Smithsonian Metro Station. The museums are open daily, except Christmas, from 10am to 5:30pm. Extended summer hours are from 10am to 6:30pm for the Museums of American History, Natural History, and Air and Space only.

the Supreme CourtSUPREME COURT: Located at 1st Street and Maryland Avenue, by the Capitol South Metro Station, N.E. Open Monday-Friday from 9am to 4:30pm., closed federal holidays. Public lectures are conducted in the courtroom from 9:30am-3:30pm every hour on the half hour, except when court is in session. Limited Congressional tours available with 6 to 8 weeks advance notice. U.S. TREASURY DEPARTMENT: 1400 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Tours conducted on Saturdays at 10am, 10:20am, and 10:40am. Tours are 90 minutes in length. Admission is free. Reservations are required. Telephone (202) 554-5100

U.S. Capitol

THE UNITED STATES CAPITOL:  The Capitol is located at the eastern end of the mall and flanked by the House and Senate office buildings, easy access to the Capitol is provided through both the Union Station and Capitol South Metro Stations. Tours are conducted daily from 9am to 3:45pm beginning in the Rotunda. Closed Christmas, New Year's Day, and Thanksgiving. Visit Congressman Burton's office for passes to the House of Representatives and Senate galleries. Children must be at least six years of age to be admitted in the Senate Gallery. In the House, children under 10 are allowed in the gallery if accompanied by an adult. Both galleries are open between 9am and 4:30pm, but may open earlier or close later depending on when the House and Senate are in session. Telephone: (202) 225-2276

the White HouseTHE WHITE HOUSE:   Online tour of White House State Rooms. 
 The White House is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and accessible by the McPherson Square Metro Station. Public tours are given from 10 a.m. - noon.  Visitors should go to the the East Gate on East Executive Avenue.  Tickets are required for the Spring and Summer months.  They can be obtained at the Visitor Center, at the southeast corner of 15th and E Streets beginning at 7:30 a.m. the day you wish to take a tour. Tickets are free and available on a first come, first serve basis. Tours can also be arranged through Congressman Burton's office. The tours are conducted every morning, Tuesday through Saturday. There is very limited availability of the tickets, so please contact Congressman Burton's office 8 - 10 weeks (or even earlier) before your visit. Telephone: (202) 225-2276

WOLF TRAP FARM PARK FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS:  Located on Route 7 near Vienna, Virginia. The Nation's first National Park for the performing arts offers ballet, opera, the symphony, pop, rock, folk, and jazz. Summer concerts are given in the indoor/outdoor Filene Center. THE NATIONAL ZOO: Located at 3000 Connecticut Avenue, N.W. and accessible by the Woodley Park Metro Stop. Grounds are open daily from 8am to 6pm from October 16 to April 14 and from 8am to 8pm from April 15 to October 15. METRO TRANSIT: The subway and transit bus system for Washington, D.C. and its surrounding areas. The subway service is limited and expensive relative to New York City. Fare cards can be purchased at each station and with prices based on distance traveled.

TOURMOBILE SERVICE: The National Park Service operates guided tourmobiles that travel from Capitol Hill to Arlington National Cemetery and points in between with unlimited reboarding privileges the day of the ticket purchases.
