COLUMBUS--A
statewide network that provides services to Ohio’s elderly has honored
Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Delaware Co.) for his work on seniors’ issues in
Congress
The Ohio Association of Area
Agencies on Aging presented Tiberi with its “Elected Official Advocacy
Award” during the group’s annual conference in Columbus.
Association
President Alan Burnett praised Tiberi for sponsoring and gaining House
passage of legislation renewing the Older Americans Act, the nation’s
primary vehicle for providing services to senior citizens. Some 400
conference attendees heard Burnett say that Tiberi “made it a priority
and worked tirelessly” to pass the legislation.
Tiberi’s
bill renews and improves the programs that seniors use every day, such
as those providing meals and nutritional services. Other programs
renewed in his legislation include community service employment for the
elderly, abuse prevention, in-home care, and the long-term care
ombudsman program.
The House and Senate
have approved different versions of the bill, but Tiberi told the
Association conference that every effort was being made to work out the
differences between the two, “so that a final bill can be on the
President’s desk for his signature before the end of the year.”
The
Association award was the latest Tiberi has received for his work on
seniors’ issues. He was also honored this year by The 60 Plus
Association for his voting record and presented with the “Giving from
the Heart Award” by the Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio Chapter.
