At a press conference on Monday, May 8 at the Chicago Vietnam Veterans Memorial, U.S. Senators Barack Obama and Dick Durbin announced that the Veterans Administration will send letters to more than 62,000 disabled Illinois veterans notifying them that Illinois has received the lowest average disability compensation in the nation. The letters will inform veterans of the situation and let them know that there are steps they can take to improve their disability payments.
