Boustany Statement Regarding House Ethics Committee Investigation
October 6, 2006

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr. today released the following statement regarding the bipartisan investigation of the House Ethics Committee, as well as efforts by Speaker Hastert to implement reforms to the congressional page program:

Yesterday, the House Ethics Committee launched a bipartisan investigation into Congress’ handing of Mr. Foley’s actions.  This investigation, along with those launched by the FBI and the state of Florida, should leave no stone unturned.

Members of Congress are given the trust of the people who elect them to office.  As such, we are expected to live up to the highest standard by those who send us to Washington.  Any Member of Congress, Republican or Democrat, who had knowledge of Mr. Foley’s explicit communications, and then tried to conceal them, should be held accountable.  The same holds true for Congressional staff members.

I have full confidence in Speaker Hastert.  Under his leadership, we will all work to implement changes to the congressional page program to ensure that these students can live and work in a comfortable and safe environment.
