In his second term as a Member of Congress, Jeb Bradley is focusing his attention on a number of key issues, such as winning the war on terrorism and keeping our homeland safe, reinvigorating our economy while keeping spending under control, providing veterans and those who serve our country with the pay and benefits they deserve, and making healthcare more affordable and accessible for all Americans.
Bradley serves on the following committees: Armed
Services, Budget, Veterans'
Affairs and Small Business, where he serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Tax, Finance and Exports. These areas are of particular importance to New Hampshire’s First Congressional District. Jobs provided by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and defense contractors are extremely important to New Hampshire’s economy and our nation’s security. Small businesses provide the majority of new jobs in the state. Veterans’ issues are also critical as over 137,000 past members of our nation’s armed services live in New Hampshire. And as a Member of the Budget Committee, Bradley will bring the “New Hampshire” values of fiscal restraint and low taxes to his role on the committee.
Bradley has established himself as a leader in Congress who is working hard for the residents of the First Congressional District. He was named Citizen of the Year by the New Hampshire Veterans of Foreign Wars for his outstanding support of legislative issues on behalf of veterans and a Hero of the Taxpayer by Americans for Tax Reform.
Prior to becoming a Member of Congress, Bradley served in the New Hampshire Legislature
for twelve years where he chaired the Science, Technology and Energy Committee, as well as
the Joint Committee on Ethics. When New Hampshire faced electrical rates that were the
highest in the country, Bradley spearheaded legislation that lowered rates for PSNH
customers by more than fifteen percent. Bradley also sponsored the Clean Power Act, a
piece of legislation that made New Hampshire the first state to address sulfur, nitrogen,
carbon dioxide and mercury emissions.
While in the State Legislature, Bradley was widely recognized for his accomplishments. In
2000, Ski New Hampshire named Bradley Legislator of the Year. Bradley has also received
the Governor George D. Aiken Award, which is given by the Northeast Association of
Electric Cooperatives, and was named a "New Hampshire Leader for the 21st
Century" by Business NH Magazine.
Before joining the State Legislature, Bradley owned and operated several small businesses.
Bradley enjoys spending time on Rust Pond in Wolfeboro with his family. An avid skier,
snowboarder and rock climber, Bradley has ascended all of New Hampshire's 48 4,000 foot
peaks and is a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club's Four Thousand Footer Club. |
