BRADLEY ANNOUNCES FEDERAL GRANTS FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY, LOWER BARTLETT WATER PRECINCT AT EVENTS IN MIDDLETON AND BARTLETT
Funds will help to spur economic growth, improve quality of drinking water
(Middleton, NH) – First District Congressman Jeb Bradley was on hand today for the announcement of USDA Rural Development energy efficiency grants for several companies in New Hampshire at an event held at Middleton Building Supply. Rural Development announced that four companies in New Hampshire will receive a combined total of $535,000 in energy efficiency grants that will allow them to install wood pellet furnaces or energy-efficient lighting.
“I was pleased to be on hand for the announcement of these Rural Development grants in Middleton today, which will help four small New Hampshire companies cut their energy costs,” said Bradley. “Not only will making these companies more energy efficient be good for the environment, it will also help to maintain the economic viability of our state’s forest products industry.”
Middleton Building Supply will receive $500,000 for the purchase and installation of a wood boiler heating system. The company, which employs 145 people, will save approximately $900,000 annually in electricity costs by converting to a wood boiler. In addition, High Standard, Inc., of Jaffrey is slated to receive $20,000 for a wood pellet furnace system. Weirs Sports Center, Inc., in Laconia, and Penny Publications in North Loudon are slated to receive $9,783 and $8,175, respectively, for the installation of energy-efficient lighting.
“The Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency Improvement program is a valuable tool in helping rural businesses and agricultural producers cut energy costs and increase their economic viability,” said Jolinda H. LaClair, State Director of USDA Rural Development. “This year’s grantees are an example of progressive thinking and ingenuity akin to New Hampshire.”
Later in the afternoon, Bradley attended the announcement of a $2.5 million grant/loan combination for the Lower Bartlett Water Precinct (LBWP) at an event held at the Glen Fire Station. The LBWP is in the process of creating a pipe network to increase distribution capacity and better deliver clean drinking water to Bartlett residents. Currently, the town’s old water mains cannot meet current demand.
Bradley, who wrote a letter to Rural Development in support of the project, stated, “I was pleased to support this project, which is important for ensuring the availability of a clean water supply for Bartlett residents. These upgrades will provide a tremendous benefit to public health and the environment and will also help the town with additional fire protection.”
State Rep. Gene Chandler (R-Bartlett), who attended the announcement today, stated, “The residents up here will be well-served by this funding, and we’re grateful for Congressman Bradley’s support. People will be well-served by a clean and healthy water supply and the added fire protection this water source will offer the community.”
“It is vital for a community to have an adequate water supply to provide a safe and dependable source of drinking water as well as fire protection,” said LaClair. “Rural Development is pleased to help the Lower Bartlett Water Precinct provide this important resource to its customers.”
