Joint Statement from Boehner, Norwood on the Federal Investigation into the Sago Mine Tragedy
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Education & the Workforce Committee Chairman John Boehner (R-OH) and Workforce Protections Subcommittee Chairman Charlie Norwood (R-GA) today issued the following statement on the Mine Safety and Health Administration investigation into the Sago Mine tragedy in Upshur County, West Virginia:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and community impacted by this tragedy. We are pleased that the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has moved quickly to launch a full investigation into what preceded and followed the tragedy at the Sago Mine. We expect MSHA to produce a thorough account of the events that occurred before, during, and after this tragedy, and the Committee will closely monitor this investigation to ensure its timely completion. Following a full accounting of the facts, the Committee will examine the results of the investigation and determine what appropriate steps may be necessary to ensure a similar tragedy never happens again.” # # # # # |
