GRANT CITY, MISSOURI – U.S. Senator Kit Bond today announced that he has secured $500,000 for Grant City’s downtown revitalization project in the Transportation-Treasury-HUD spending bill.

“These funds will help create the environment for job growth in Grant City. Downtown revitalization will draw new businesses and opportunities to this community,” said Bond. “I will continue to use my position on the Appropriations Committee and as Missouri’s senior Senator to send federal dollars back to the state to fund local priorities.”

As chairman of the Senate Transportation-Treasury-HUD Appropriations Subcommittee, Bond secured the $500,000 in federal funds in the fiscal year 2007 spending bill, which passed subcommittee earlier this week and is scheduled to pass the full committee this afternoon.. Before being signed into law, the bill must be passed by the full Senate and reconciled with the House of Representatives version.

The $500,000 for the Grant City revitalization project will be used for downtown improvements which includes sewers, curbs, and streetscapes.

Bond stressed that the downtown revitalization project will result in a number of positive benefits, including strengthening existing business, creating new job growth, increasing property values and encouraging new business development.
