Lincoln, Pryor, Boozman Announce

House Seal Outline

Washington, Oct 4 -

U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, and U.S. Representative John Boozman announced Wednesday $594,785 in fire grants to assist firefighters in protecting the lives and property of Arkansans.

"As first responders, local firefighters play an integral role in keeping our communities safe," Lincoln said. "This grant program is essential for funding firefighters’ equipment needs so that they can provide the best possible service to the people of Northwest Arkansas."

"Our firefighters work hard to keep us safe, and it's important that we help provide the equipment, training, and facilities they need to stay safe as they bravely protect our communities," said Pryor.

“Firefighters represent the front line of protection for the people of the Third District, and these grants are a critical resource to ensure our firefighters have the proper tools to save lives and keep their local communities safe,” Boozman said.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is a part of the Preparedness Directorate's Office of Grants and Training in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Grants are given to fire departments to enhance their ability to protect the public and fire service personnel from fire and related hazards. Three types of grants are available: Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S), and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER).

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical services organizations.
