Arkansas World Trade Center Announced
Rep. Boozman touts benefits to U of A, Arkansas

Rep. John Boozman speaks at the announcement of the Arkansas World Trade Center.

Rogers, Ark., Sep 18 -
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) participated in the announcement of an Arkansas World Trade Center at Pinnacle Business Center.

The University of Arkansas entered into an agreement to become a member of the World Trade Center Association, a not-for-profit, nonpolitical association dedicated to the promotion and facilitation of world trade. More than 750,000 companies are affiliated with the World Trade Center Association worldwide. The mission of the association is to support the establishment and successful operation of individual world trade centers, which enhances stability, peace, world trade and development, leading to economic growth.

The planning for the Arkansas World Trade Center began last April when Boozman convened a group of community business leaders, UA officials and area chamber executives to discuss the feasibility of such a center. Based on that discussion, it was determined that the University of Arkansas would play the lead role in the project.

“I want to thank Chancellor White and the University of Arkansas, our senators and Governor Huckabee, along with Larry Walthers and the folks at the Arkansas Department of Economic Development, and so many more in our community who have been involved in making this Arkansas World Trade Center project possible,” Boozman said. “A World Trade Center brings together businesses and government agencies involved in foreign trade. It acts as a trade information hub where a full range of services can be obtained.

“As a member of the International Relations Committee in the House of Representatives, I want to commend the University and officials who have brought this project to fruition,” Boozman continued.  “Trade relationships are a huge part of our national diplomatic relations and we here in Arkansas can benefit from looking beyond our own borders as well.

“Finally, the World Trade Center project allows for the commercialization of projects the UofA is currently working on.  As the state’s premier research institution, many of these projects bring about products that could possibly be put into production with the proper avenue.  This World Trade Center will do exactly that,” Boozman added.
