Guam Receives Over $3 Million in HUD Grants

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—October 6, 2006—Washington, DC

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo announced today the awarding of over $3 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  The includes $2,751,267 from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, $125,829 from the Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) program and $1,302,614 from the “HOME’ program.

These grants will assist the Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority to continue its programs to revitalize neighborhoods and improve community facilities, expand economic opportunities, and provide affordable housing for low-income households for Guam residents and to improve the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters. Other government agencies as well as non-profit organizations and private business can also apply for assistance from these programs.

“I applaud the efforts of the staff and management of the Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority in being awarded these grants,” Congresswoman Bordallo said. “The Community Development Block Grant program, Emergency Shelter Grant program and the “HOME’ program have given our most disadvantaged residents a chance at a better life over the years, and I look forward to GHURA’s continued excellence in administering these programs next year.”
