WASHINGTON—House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) today delivered the following statement in reaction to the U.S. Department of Labor’s announcement that 92,000 jobs were created in the month of October. The Dow also continues to reach record highs, gas prices are dropping, and the unemployment rate of 4.4% is lower than the averages of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
“More Americans are working today, on average, than in the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties. Tax relief has spurred unprecedented economic growth. To turn back to the failed tax-and-spend policies of a Democrat-controlled Congress would stymie this economic boom and stop job creation.
“The Dow is at a record high, unemployment is at a record low, homeownership and consumer confidence are up, and gas prices are down.
“Today more Americans are working and taking home more of their paychecks. And Republican tax relief policies are the reason. Democrats want to raise taxes on working Americans so they can spend the money in Washington. Republicans believe families deserve to keep more of their own money. After all, they earned it.”
