H.R.
366, the Vocational and Technical Education for the Future Act
Under the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and
Technical Education Act, known as the Perkins program, states and local
communities help prepare youth and adults for the future by building
their academic and technical skills.
The programs equip students with the knowledge to proceed with
postsecondary education or pursue other postsecondary opportunities.
Perkins represents one of the largest federal
investments in our nation’s high schools and is a key component of our
secondary and postsecondary education systems.
Through reauthorization of vocational and technical education
programs, Congress has an opportunity to help states strengthen
vocational education and ensure its continued success into the future.
The 109th Congress will work to strengthen the Perkins program by helping
states better utilize federal funds for secondary and postsecondary
vocational education programs, increasing accountability and emphasizing
student achievement, and strengthening opportunities for coordination
between secondary and postsecondary vocational and technical education.
