Senator Dodd Welcomes National Geographic Bee Connecticut State Champion

Senator Dodd today met with Liam McCarthy, a 13-year-old 8th grader at Middlesex Middle School in Darien, who won the Connecticut State National Geographic Geography Bee. Liam also represented Connecticut at the 2005 National Geographic Bee.

This contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography. Students in grades four through eight are eligible to participate. State qualifiers competed in an oral competition in March and are now in Washington to compete in the national finals for scholarships of up to $25,000.
