BOEHLERT: $494,554 AWARDED TO THE UTICA CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Sherwood Boehlert (R-New Hartford) today announced a $494,554 grant through the U.S Department of Education for the Utica City School District (UCSD) to administer a character education program in four local elementary schools.

"A strong character leads to a bright future," Boehlert said. "The Utica City School District's plan to enhance and expand character education services will better prepare students to deal with the many tough decisions they face throughout their adolescence."

Funds to design, implement, and manage the Utica Partnerships in Character Education Project, a model project that will add, enhance and expand character education services in four local elementary schools. The project will include integrating character education in academic curriculum and instruction, and evaluating the effectiveness of those services. The project will: 1) Develop and support safe schools and strong character for all students; 2) Create a culture and climate that effectively addresses the many stresses and risk behaviors students experience; 3) Improve student achievement; and 4) Transform character education practices into an evidence-based model that can be integrated into UCSD instruction.
