BORDER FENCE BILL SIGNED INTO LAW
Blackburn credits nationwide Congressional border hearings with building momentum for security first approach

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative Marsha Blackburn (TN-7th District) called the signing of H.R. 6061, the Secure Fence Act, a major victory for border security first advocates. The legislation authorizes construction of 700 miles of reinforced fencing along the southwest border. Congressional Republicans successfully prevented efforts to include amnesty provisions for illegal aliens in the legislation.

"The House championed legislation that put security first and our efforts have paid off," Blackburn said. "Our nationwide hearings made it clear that Americans considered border security a matter of national security and this bill reflects that fact.

"Republicans rejected calls for amnesty and we've fought efforts to provide illegal aliens with taxpayer funded benefits. The American people are far closer to our Republican approach to border security than they are to Nancy Pelosi's approach."
