Cantor Announces Collection Point for Care Package Drive

Encourages 7th District Citizens to Contribute to Effort for Virginia Troops

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Eric Cantor (R-VA) announced today that the 7th Congressional District Richmond office will serve as a collection point for goods to be placed in care packages for troops fighting overseas in the War on Terror. The care packages will be sent to troops in honor of Armed Forces Day, May 20, 2006.

“Armed Forces Day is a day to honor our men and women currently serving in uniform,” Cantor said. “What better way to thank them for their service than to send them a gift from the people they protect. I encourage all of the citizens of the 7th District to donate to this effort to support our troops overseas.”

The 7th District office is located at 5040 Sadler Place, Suite 110, in Glen Allen. Items can be dropped off Wednesday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and must be received by Friday, May 19 at 5:00 p.m.

Suggested items include a letter to a soldier, toiletries, DVDs, magazines, books, stationery, phone cards and non-perishable food such as hard candy, granola bars, canned nuts and canned fruit. For more information, please contact Leslie Wagner at (804) 747-4073 or toll free at (800) 438-3793.

Armed Forces Day was created in 1949 to celebrate the unification of all armed services branches under one Department of Defense and to honor those serving in the armed forces.
