KING RELOADS ANTI-GUN BILL

By GEOFF EARLE

June 7, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - Traffickers who illegally sell guns to criminals would face tough new federal penalties under gun-control legislation introduced yesterday by Rep. Peter King (R-L.I.).

"You have gun traffickers who are profiting on the death of innocent men, women and children," King said.

The congressman said his bill has new momentum thanks partly to a high-profile push by Mayor Bloomberg - although the House Republican majority in Congress has blocked gun-control legislation and the bill got stalled before.

King dedicated his bill to NYPD Detectives James Nemorin and Rodney Andrews, who were fatally shot in the head during an undercover bust of a gun dealer on Staten Island in 1995.
