Aderholt Attends Pope John Paul II’s Funeral in Vatican City
“Pope John Paul II has been one of the most influential figures of the modern era.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the Catholic community worldwide,” said Congressman Aderholt.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) is joining a congressional delegation traveling to Rome, and then on to Vatican City, for Pope John Paul II’s funeral Friday.  Congressman Aderholt will be in St. Peter’s Basilica for the service.

“One of the reasons I admired Pope John Paul II so much was because he reached out to those who were Protestants, like myself, and he knew the importance of encouraging a ‘culture of life,’” said Congressman Aderholt.

“Pope John Paul II has had a tremendous impact on the global Christian community, and his commitment to the dignity of every human life should be honored.  The pope provided much of the spiritual motivation that triggered the fall of communism.  He also taught us that the very freedoms we enjoy rise and fall on our culture’s view of human life in all of its forms.

“The Pope certainly provided a good example of the stunning power of faith; his service and spiritual leadership have served as a source of strength for countless others.”
