McKeon Announces Key Hires for

Education & the Workforce Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Newly-elected Chairman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) today announced the selection of staff for two key positions at the U.S. House Committee on Education & the Workforce.

James Bergeron has been tapped to serve as Counselor to the Chairman.  Bergeron – who served as Legislative Director for McKeon from 2001 to 2004 – will advise the Chairman on all issues before the Committee, with an emphasis on American competitiveness issues and the Committee’s ongoing efforts to streamline and strengthen federal education and job training programs.  He most recently served as Vice President of MARC Associates, where he consulted for the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs (NCHELP) and represented a number of other higher education organizations.

Rob Borden will be the Committee’s General Counsel.  In this capacity, he will be the lead advisor to the Chairman on parliamentary procedures, committee jurisdiction, and legislative planning and drafting.  Borden formerly served as Senior Counsel and Parliamentarian for the U.S. House Committee on Government Reform and most recently completed an assignment as Senior Associate Special Counsel to the Select Bipartisan Committee to Investigate the Preparation for and Response to Hurricane Katrina.  Before his tenure with the Government Reform Committee, Borden was Counsel for the House Budget Committee and a professional staff member for the Committee on Education & the Workforce.

“Rob and James will be important members of our team, particularly as we craft legislation to improve the American workforce’s ability to meet the new realities we face in a global economy,” noted McKeon.  “Both of them have been valuable advisors to me and the Committee in the past, and I’m grateful to have each of them in the fold as I take on my new responsibilities as chairman.”
