Register to Vote in West Virginia

(provided by the West Virginia Secretary of State)

Step 1:  Please register only if you are an eligible West Virginia resident.  If you reside in another state, use Voter Registration USA to find links to your home state registration information.  See our Q&A if you want to know more about eligibility.

Step 2:  Please register at your home address.  The law requires that you register where you live, not at a business address.

Step 3:  Download the form and instructions.  Click in the form boxes to type in your information.   Download Now!  When you are finished entering the information, print the form, then click the Back button on your browser to return here for the remaining steps.

Step 4: SIGN YOUR LEGAL NAME in ink in the "Voter Signature" box.

We're sorry, but the form can't be submitted online
because the law requires your original signature.

Step 5:  Find your County Clerk's address in the roster of County Clerks and enter it on the mailing face of the card.  Add postage.

Step 6:  Mail your complete form to the county clerk.  Check the registration deadlines for the next state/county election.

Step 7:  Follow up! If you don't receive a notice in the mail within two to three weeks, call your county clerk to see if there is a problem.

The clerk is required to mail a notice to you at the address you gave, but if the notice is returned undeliverable at that address, the clerk cannot legally complete the registration and issue your voter card.
