I hope that by sharing these initiatives with each other, we will be able to take advantage of what’s working and strengthen our Republican Conference as we work through this critical session of Congress. – John T. Doolittle, House Republican Conference Secretary

Carter: District Gas Tour
Congressman Carter pumps gas for constituents and talks to them about gas prices and the need for energy legislation. This is a great and easy way for reporters to get local footage/spin on a national story as well as a great way to show constituents that Congress is aware and concerned with the issue.

Shimkus: Traveling Help Desk
Congressman Shimkus' Traveling Help Desk affords constituents in remote locations of the Congressional District the opportunity to speak privately with a member of Shimkus' staff. This effort is appreciated by the community and helps forge stronger ties to local officials in large rural areas. The help desks have also proven successful in urban settings. Residents are notified of the Help Desks by letters and news releases, which are often covered in the local newspaper, larger area papers and local radio stations.
