March 2006:

Chabot: School Visit
Congressman Chabot frequently visits local elementary schools to read the House Mouse, Senate Mouse book. This book teaches children about our nation's Capitol Building and explains the legislative process. Along with the reading, slides are shown that relate to the book. All local television, radio and print media are invited to the event.

Conaway: Flat Stanley
Schools in Congressman Conaway's district will send him Flat Stanley, a paper human caricature, who will travel and be photographed with the Congressman on his travels. Once Flat Stanley returns to his home school, the teachers, or perhaps Congressman Conaway himself, share Flat Stanley's travels with the children while explaining how government works. This produced positive local press coverage for Congressman Conaway in his district.

Gingrey: Medicare Part D Enrollment Workshop
The Medicare Part D Enrollment Workshop is a training session where local seniors can learn about specific plans and providers. Outside groups, such as the Center for Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security Administration, local Medicare Part D plan providers and the local Council on Aging are invited to provide professional service and support.

Gutknecht: Weekly Radio Show
Congressman Gutknecht hosts a weekly radio show that allows him to directly reach his constituents and discuss his position on current issues. Members are authorized to spend MRA dollars to record and advertise the show.

Hayes: Coin Toss
Congressman Hayes will attend a high school football game and perform the “coin toss.” Often he will use a special coin, such as a military coin that he had collected from soldiers he has met. Local press is invited and made aware of his attendance and the significance of the coin, if applicable. During the game Congressman Hayes will then connect with his constituents as he chats with the fans in the stands.

Kline: Katrina Volunteer Ceremony
The Katrina Volunteer Ceremony allows constituents of Congressman Kline to be recognized as a Good Samaritan for their participation in the relief effort. This tactic has allowed Congressman Kline to connect with 350 of his constituents and celebrate their positive efforts.

Manzullo: Welcome Letter
Congressman Manzullo mails a “welcome letter” to new constituents which outlines his list of services and promotes his web page. In order to find these new constituents, the Congressman's District staff will scan the business section of local newspapers for real estate transactions.

Simmons: Proactive Mailings and Press Clips
Congressman Simmons will proactively send groups of constituents positive news article that pertains to a certain issue. For example, a positive article regarding illegal immigration will be sent to his mailing list of border security supporters. This tactic enhances the credibility of the Congressman's work.
