Contact: Victoria Martinez, 202-225-4211

October 17th, 2006 - Washington, D.C. - Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the President’s signing of the Military Commissions Act of 2006. The bill, H.R. 6166, passed the House on September 27, 2006 by a vote of 253-168.
“This legislation is delicately balanced to meet the unique challenges of the global war on international terrorism,” said Congressman Diaz-Balart. “It protects our methods and sources of gathering intelligence and our intelligence officers and troops in the field, while satisfying our obligations under the Geneva Conventions. The security of the American people is enhanced by this crucial legislation” concluded Diaz-Balart.
