CONGRESSMAN BASS APPOINTED TO SPEAKER’S ETHICS TASK FORCE Urges Colleagues to Hold Leadership Candidates to a Reform Agenda
“I am honored that the Speaker asked me to participate in developing meaningful reforms of the rules and operations of the House of Representatives,” said Bass the day after the Speaker’s Task Force was made public. “The Congressional agenda of keeping our economy strong and our nation secure is in danger of being overshadowed by the illegal and unethical actions of a handful of people. The independence and integrity of this group and our work to set clear guidance and the highest standards is a critical priority.” Congressman Bass organized the movement last Friday to force new elections within the Republican Conference for any vacant Leadership posts. This effort, which was co-led by Congressman Jeff Flake (R-AZ), began the process that concluded early Saturday with the announcement by Speaker Hastert that new elections will soon be held. “I will support candidates for Leadership positions who commit to an aggressive reform and performance-driven agenda,” concluded Bass. “The nation is best served when Congress works together and remains focused on priorities that have proven time and time again to have the support of the majority of Americans.”
