Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act
On December 8, 2003, President George W. Bush signed the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act into law.  This landmark legislation provides seniors and people living with disabilities with a prescription drug benefit, more choices and better benefits under Medicare, and represents the most significant improvement to senior health care in nearly 40 years.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have teamed up to create www.medicare.gov, the Official U.S.Government Site for People with Medicare to answer questions about the new Medicare law and drug benefit.  This site is updated frequently and contains eligibility and benefit information on the drug discount cards, the $600 low-income credit, and traditional assistance.

U.S. House of Representatives Resources
The House Ways and Means Committee, which shares jurisdiction over changes to Medicare policy, maintains an informative Medicare Resource Kit website that provides substantial background information on the Medicare Modernization Act and the benefits it provides.

AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization for people age 50 and over.  Their endorsement and support for the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act was critical to its passage and enactment.



Beneficiary Out of Pocket Costs Calculator

The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation has compiled some resources to reflect the latest information, as well as background materials on various parts of the law.  This calculator allows users to enter their prescription drug costs to determine what they will pay starting in 2006 under the Medicare prescription drug law.
