Senator Max Baucus - Flag Order Form
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S. SERVICE ACADEMY NOMINEES

CANDIDATES MUST BE:

  • Citizens of the United States
  • Between 17 and 22 years old by July 1 of the year of appointment
  • Unmarried, and never have been married
  • Of good moral character

RESIDENT OF THE DISTRICT FROM WHICH NOMINATED.
Legal residence of father determines constituency; if parents are divorced, residence of parent with whom nominee lives determines constituency.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMISSIONS TO ACADEMIES include consideration of scholastic examination scores, physical aptitude scores, class rank, and medical examinations, and are determined on an individual basis through evaluation of the "whole person."

College Board or American College Testing Examination is required of all applicants.

  • The national mean score for SAT is 635 for Verbal, and 663 For Math; the national mean score for ACT is 28 for English, and 30 for Math.
  • The candidate should be in the top 40% of his/her class.
  • Physical aptitude examinations are required of all nominees.
  • A medical examination is required of all applicants.
  • 20/20 vision uncorrected is preferred.
  • Athletic and extra-curricular activities are also considered.

Finally let me point out that each academy selects candidates on an average of all the above-mentioned requirements. If you score low on the ACT English test but have an outstanding extra-curricular activities list, you may still be selected.
