Committee on Agriculture

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture has expanded throughout our nation’s history to adapt to our changing world. The Committee's role now includes the farm bill and rural economic conditions, crop insurance, agricultural trade, commodity futures trading, agricultural research and promotion, conservation, farm credit, welfare and food nutrition programs, and food safety inspection.  In its 180 years in the Congress, the Committee on Agriculture has addressed producers' credit needs, and secured government's financial committment to bring electricity, telephones, and water treatment to rural communities.

As the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, Dairy, Nutrition and Forestry, Congressman Baca is responsible for reviewing policy and legislation that relates to USDA oversight, agency review and analysis, USDA special investigations, food stamps, nutrition and consumer programs, forestry, energy and bio-based energy production, and dairy.

Congressman Baca’s priorities for the 109th Congress (2005 - 2006) will be dairy and nutrition policy.  The majority of San Bernardino’s agriculture is comprised of dairy production. He will fight to protect programs that educate the public about nutrition, such as the 5-a-Day program and California Grown.  Congressman Baca also will oppose efforts to cut funding for food stamps, our nation’s number one federal resource for education, and food stamp nutrition education.  No one in this nation should have to go hungry.
