Latino Issues

Hispanics are the fastest growing segment of our community and have recently become the nation's largest minority group, accounting for nearly 13 percent of the U.S. population. As the second Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressman Baca is working hard to ensure that Hispanics have a voice in our government. Whether it is in the fields of education, health, immigration, or business, he will continue to fight for issues that are important to Hispanics.

Corporate America Task Force

Congressman Baca is the chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Corporate America Task Force. The Task Force has three primary goals: to increase diversity in corporate boardrooms and senior management; to increase corporate America's procurement of goods and services from Hispanic-owned businesses; and to increase corporate America's philanthropic support of Hispanics and Hispanic communities.

More companies now recognize that they must tap into the growing pool of talented Hispanic candidates for all levels of their workforce, particularly in their corporate boardrooms. They understand that a Hispanic-inclusive workforce will contribute to higher creativity and innovation, resulting in a more productive company. Congressman Baca is dedicated to working with companies to help them turn this realization into results.

Hispanics: A Growing Minority

Throughout the next several years, Hispanics will continue to play an increased role in the political, economic, and social realms of our society. They have shown diligent leadership, remarkable achievements, and unending perseverance in pursuing the American dream. They embody the spirit and values that we, as Americans, seek to cultivate. However, there is still much work to be done. From early education to corporate America, Hispanics are under-funded and underrepresented. Budget cuts will begin to take their toll on education, affecting programs such as the High School Equivalency Program (HEP), College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), and Head Start. Despite the need for increased educational funding, millions of dollars have been cut, leaving children from poor and minority communities facing overwhelming odds. Congressman Baca is dedicated to seeing that Hispanics, and all Americans, receive the best education and healthcare our country has to offer. He will fight for what our nation has always strived to be: a nation that is fiscally and politically egalitarian.
