House Committee Service

The committee structure is where the bulk of the work is done in Congress once a piece of legislation is introduced on the House floor and entered into The Congressional Record. Congressman Davis serves on two House Committees.

The House Budget Committee is one of the most important committees in all of Congress. This body decides the spending priorities for our nation by offering recommendations on which federal programs or projects will be funded and the amount of funding each will receive. Once a budget is put forth, it is then sent to the Appropriations Committee for decisions on final funding for each item in the document. The final recommendations that come from this committee speak to the nation's values and our immediate and long-term fiscal strategy.

This committee does not have subcommittees.

The Financial Services Committee oversees the entire financial services industry, including the securities, insurance, banking, and housing industries. The Committee also oversees the work of the Federal Reserve, the Treasury, the SEC, and other financial services regulators.

This committee is directly relevant to how consumers access products and services - car loans, home mortgages, credit cards, etc. - offered by banking and lending institutions.

Congressman Davis's Financial Services subcommittees include:

Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises
The subcommittee watches over the U.S. capital markets, securities and insurance industries and government-sponsored enterprises, such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It oversees the Securities and Exchange Commission as well as the self-regulatory organizations that police the securities markets.

Housing and Community Opportunity
The subcommittee oversees public and private housing, community development, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The panel has done extensive work to evaluate and form solutions for housing affordability shortages across America.

Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations
The subcommittee is charged with oversight of all matters within the jurisdiction of the Committee on Financial Services. Its investigations have ranged from corrupt housing authorities to financial fraud.
