Hyde Comments on Guilty Verdict for Saddam Hussein
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Rep. Henry J. Hyde (R-IL), Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on International Relations issued the following statement in reaction to today’s guilty verdict and sentence announced by a special Iraqi tribunal against former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein:

History will mark today’s decision as a significant step toward reconciliation for the Iraqi people who have suffered for so long under the brutal regime of Saddam Hussein. This long process of national reconciliation is achievable now that a measure of justice has been carried out by the Iraqi people themselves.

We continue to mourn the immeasurable loss to the Iraqi people for the crimes against humanity committed by Saddam Hussein. We also honor our brave American and coalition forces which worked together to bring him to justice.
