Science Committee

It is my honor to serve as a member of the Committee on Science, a committee that has jurisdiction over all of the cutting edge, non-defense federal scientific research and development (R&D). The Committee oversees (either completely or partially) such critical federal agencies as: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Science Foundation (NSF), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Fire Administration, and U.S. Geological Survey.

It has been a privilege working with the Committee as it explores tough issues including the future direction of NASA and solutions to cleaning up locations involved with the methamphetamine crisis (“crystal meth”).

The Committee has passed through its body legislation creating a scholarship program for our future meteorologists, grants between local communities and industry to keep our neighborhoods clean, and a tsunami warning system that covers the coasts of the U.S. to limit the possibility of what happened in Southeast Asia in December 2004 from occurring in the United States.
