Capitol Hill Dem: Bringing Terrorists to Justice a "Major Blow to Who We Are"
BOEHNER DRAWS STARK CONTRAST BETWEEN GOP AND DEMOCRATS ON TERRORISM

Washington, Oct 18 -

Every day, it seems another Capitol Hill Democrat says something unintelligible which encapsulates perfectly why the American people don’t trust Democrats to address national security issues in a serious manner.

Yesterday, Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT) did the honors, inexplicably telling Iowans that the common sense terrorist tribunal bill signed into law by President Bush was a “major retreat for us as a people.” Of course Dodd’s comments simply reflect the weak and indecisive approach Democrats have taken in the global war on terror, a stance reflected further in their countless votes to deny giving the President the tools he needs to keep America safe.

Here’s what Dodd said about the terrorist tribunal bill according to the Associated Press:

“It’s a major, major retreat for us as a people,” Dodd said during a visit to Iowa on Tuesday afternoon. “It’s incredible what they did.”

Dodd went on to say he regrets not filibustering the bill, and concluded by saying that bringing dangerous terror suspects to justice somehow represents a “major, major blow to who we are.”

On the Fox News morning show “Fox & Friends” this morning, Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) highlighted the stark differences in how Republicans’ approach national security issues based on strength and resolve and Capitol Hill Democrats who have proven wholly unserious about security issues altogether. Boehner said:

“[W]ho is willing to give the President the tools that he needs to take on the terrorists and defeat them before they hurt Americans? Whether it’s the Patriot Act, the military tribunal bill that the President signed into law yesterday, the terrorist surveillance program, the creation of the Homeland Security Department.

“Republicans stood up and gave the President those tools to help protect Americans before we're attacked, and the majority of Democrats on all four of those bills voted no. The fact is they want to appease the terrorists, we want to make them on and defeat them.”

On the terrorist tribunal bill, Capitol Hill Democrats took a firm stand against the interests of the American people. Faced with the choice of putting the American people first or relenting to the radical fringe within their own party, Democrats put their own interests first and voted to undermine a critical national security program designed to keep America safe.

Let there be no doubt: Americans understand the major differences between Republicans and Democrats on the issue of national security and terrorism, and they are increasingly troubled by the Democrats’ startling inability to offer even a basic agenda or plan to confront the threat.
